Benicia High’s girls varsity soccer team split four games at the Christian Brothers Tournament last weekend, making it to the semifinals before being eliminated.
It was the second week in a row Benicia went 2-2 at a tournament. The Lady Panthers nearly made it to the championship round Saturday but lost 1-0 to McClatchy in overtime.
“I thought we played well enough to win the game and make it to the championship game,” said Benicia head coach Javier Martinez. “We came together as a team over the weekend and the girls gave everything they had. I was happy with the effort.”
Tatiana Soglin scored two goals and Maxine Wade added a goal as Benicia (4-5) blanked Bradshaw Christian, 3-0, on Friday. Soglin played sparingly due to a sore ankle yet still managed to find the net twice.
Soglin scored again later in the day against Capital Christian and teammate Katie Lovelace added a goal for a 2-0 victory. Benicia ended the day with a 2-0 loss to host Christian Brothers, the eventual tournament champion.
Madison Goodmiller played all four games in goal for Benicia, which opens the Solano County Athletic Conference season Tuesday at American Canyon.
