BHS badminton team sweeps Fairfield

Benicia High’s badminton team didn’t drop a single set against visiting Fairfield on Tuesday and rolled to an easy 15-0 victory.

Anataya Phadungsang was a 21-6, 21-8 winner in No. 1 singles for Benicia, which improved to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the Solano County Athletic Conference. Gabby Traver was a 21-8, 21-12 winner in No. 2 singles while Simone Burdick won her No. 3 match, 21-9, 21-3. Twin sister Jeanette Burdick was a 21-6, 21-13 winner in No. 4 singles and Maddy Schmeling won 21-7, 21-8 in No. 5 singles.

Other singles winners for Benicia included Anise Ghandchi at No. 6 (21-8, 21-13), Danielle Lozada at No. 7 (21-5, 21-15) and Jade Fisher at No. 8 (21-6, 21-8).

The Burdick twins teamed up for a 21-14, 21-10 victory in No. 1 doubles. Phadungsang and Ghandchi won 21-11, 21-11 in No. 2 doubles while Traver and Schmeling won 21-11, 21-14 at No. 3. Lozada and Regina Salvador teamed up for a 21-12, 21-6 win in No. 5 doubles, and Fisher and Keialani Rom were 21-6, 21-11 winners in No. 7 doubles.

Other doubles winners for Benicia included Jordan Whiting and Elena Brown at No. 4 (21-6, 21-11) and Elizabeth Miller-Binkley and Alvina Phouasalit at No. 6 (21-10, 21-19).

Benicia hosts American Canyon on Thursday.
