BHS badminton team rolls past Bethel

MADDY SCHMELING and teammate Gabby Traver were 21-14, 22-20 winners in their No. 3 doubles match against Bethel.

Benicia High’s badminton team secured its hold on second place in the Solano County Athletic Conference with an 11-4 victory over visiting Bethel on Tuesday.

Though the Lady Panthers lost in No. 1 singles and doubles, they were victorious in 11 of the other 13 matches and improved to 10-3 overall and 6-2 in the SCAC. Simone Burdick rallied for a 13-21, 21-14, 21-14 victory in No. 3 singles. Other singles winners for Benicia included Gabby Traver (21-17, 21-9), Jeanette Burdick (21-13, 21-16), Anise Ghandchi (21-14, 21-12), Danielle Lozada (21-17, 21-16) and Elizabeth Miller-Binkley (21-16, 21-12).

The Burdick twins were 21-16, 21-17 winners in No. 2 doubles. Other doubles winners for the Lady Panthers included the teams of Traver and Maddy Schmeling (21-14, 22-20), Lozada and Regina Salvador (21-18, 15-21, 21-10), Jade Fisher and Keilani Rom (21-17, 21-13), and Jordan Whiting and Elena Brown (21-12, 21-14).

Benicia plays at Fairfield on Thursday. The Lady Panthers beat Fairfield, 15-0, when the teams last met March 24.
