BHS badminton has momentum going into playoffs

Benicia High’s badminton team wrapped up the regular season with a 12-3 victory over host Bethel last Thursday.

The Lady Panthers (14-3) went 10-2 in the Solano County Athletic Conference and finished in second place, the program’s best finish in school history. Four singles players and four doubles teams will represent Benicia at this Friday’s SCAC Tournament in American Canyon.

Gabby Traver was a 21-18, 21-11 winner in singles for Benicia against Bethel. Other singles winners for Benicia included Simone Burdick (21-19, 21-15), Jeanette Burdick (21-15, 21-11), Anise Ghandchi (21-8, 21-15), Jade Fisher (21-13, 21-12), Elizabeth Miller-Binkley (21-11, 21-15) and Danielle Lozada (21-14, 21-11).

Doubles winners for Benicia included Ghandchi and Anataya Phadungsang (10-21, 21-16, 21-19), the Burdick twins (21-15, 21-11), Traver and Maddy Schmeling (21-13, 21-15), Jordan Whiting and Elena Brown (22-24, 21-12, 21-14) and Lozada and Regina Salvador (18-21, 21-8, 21-18).
