Benicia’s Thompson named SCAC softball MVP; Gregory Pitcher of Year

Benicia High junior Shelby Thompson was named the Solano County Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player and teammate McKenna Gregory was named Pitcher of the Year when the SCAC announced its 2015 All-League softball team.

Thompson, who helped the Lady Panthers go 15-0 in the SCAC for a third straight season, hit .579 with a team-high seven home runs, 34 runs and 27 RBIs. Gregory, only a sophomore, went 10-1 on the season with a 2.27 earned-run average and 66 strikeouts in 71 innings.

Benicia seniors Mallory Barnard and Brianna Schlattman were each named to the All-SCAC First Team along with Thompson and Gregory. Teammates Alana Combes, Victoria Mackey, Allie Bullock and Nataschia Wibben were each Honorable Mentions.

Benicia High’s baseball team had five players get named to the All-SCAC team. Seniors Caleb Van Blake and Jason Toumbs were each named to the First Team while seniors Taylor Greene and Jack Bowles and junior Isiah Saguar were Honorable Mentions.

Jared Denning of American Canyon and Alejandro Lara of Vanden shared Player of the Year honors. There was no Pitcher of the Year named for baseball.
