Benicia High athletes Luis Ramirez, Imani McNorton and Phoenix McGee each advanced to this Thursday’s Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Trials after finishing seventh or better in their respective events at the SJS Division II-III Track & Field Finals, held at Bella Vista High School in Fair Oaks.

Ramirez took sixth place in Friday’s Divisional boys 3200 meter finals with a time of 9:52.69 and also qualified for Masters by finishing seventh in the 1600 meters (4:30.34). McNorton qualified for Masters in the boys discus, taking fifth place with a throw of 135 feet, 4 inches. McGee, only a sophomore, made it to Masters in the boys triple jump with a leap of 43 feet, 9 1/4 inches, good for fifth place.

McNorton also made it to the Divisional Finals in the boys triple jump and shot put but didn’t advance to Masters in those events. The senior finished 11th in the shot put (45-9) and 21st in the triple jump (39-01.5). McGee made it to the boys long jump finals but finished in 24th place (17-09.5).

Sophomore Daylon Garcia made it to the Divisional Finals in the boys 1600 meters and 3200 meters but finished 17th (4:44.88) and 20th (10:42.81), respectively. Junior Noah Cobb finished ninth in the boys high jump with a leap of 5-8, missing Masters by two inches.

Ramirez finished 17th at last Wednesday’s boys 800-meter preliminary race and narrowly missed out on making the finals.

Several Lady Panthers made it to the Divisional Finals but didn’t advance to Masters. Benicia’s girls 4×100 relay team of freshman Ama Ogan, sophomores Britiana Fields and Milyan White, and junior Kameron Hatcher finished ninth with a time of 51.11, missing out on Masters by 0.26 seconds. Ogan took ninth place in the girls high jump with a leap of 4-10, missing Masters by two inches. Junior Asha Woodmasee took 22nd place in the girls 1600 meters (6:17.08).

Lady Panthers who didn’t get past last Wednesday’s preliminaries included Ogan in the 100 meters (14th, 12.91); White in the 100 meters (26th, 13.20) and 200 meters (21st, 27.49); Fields in the 300 hurdles (19th, 52.96); junior Pilar Willis in the 100 hurdles (22nd, 20.06) and 300 hurdles (22nd, 54.03); sophomore Amaya Black in the 800 meters (24th, 2:54.30); and Benicia’s girls 4×400 relay team of Ogan, White, Hatcher and Carr Satual (21st, 4:34.01).

The SJS Masters Trials and Finals will take place at Elk Grove High School.
