Gov. Jerry Brown announced Friday he is returning John Schneider, 53, of Benicia, to the State Board of Pilot Commissioners for the bays of San Francisco, San Pablo and Suisun.

Schneider originally was appointed to the board in 2013. He is registered without a party preference, Brown said in his announcement.

Schneider has been marine operations manager at the Tesoro Corporation since 2014, and has worked for that company since 2006 in such positions as marine manager, single point mooring operations manager and marine superintendent.

He served as a ship’s officer for the Alaska Tanker Company from 1999 until he joined Tesoro, and for the Maritime Overseas Company from 1989 to 1999.

The appointment requires Senate confirmation, and there is no compensation.
