Members of the Benicia Police Department (BPD) came together Sunday to help a community member in need. The department learned about a Benicia resident who was experiencing a significant problem. The woman has been confined to a motorized wheelchair for some time and has been unable to navigate the steps to and from her home without assistance.
The Benicia Police Officers Association and the Dispatcher Association along with BPD staff made improvements to the resident’s front yard, in addition to painting and making other repairs to the home. KTVU Channel 2, the local Fox affiliate, and other media representatives were on scene Sunday to document the project.
The resident will now be able to come and go from her home without assistance. The BPD wishes to thank Foster Lumber and Ace Hardware for donating the materials to make the project possible.
“Leading the Way in May” is an opportunity for members of the Benicia Police Department to show their continued commitment to the citizens of Benicia. The long term goal of the program is to expand its outreach to more than one individual citizen or residence. Next year, BPD will work with all of its Neighborhood Watch groups to identify households throughout Benicia that are in need of assistance.
