It’s only fitting that during Nurses Week, the Benicia mask makers continue to step up and produce masks for health care workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The dire need for masks hasn’t gone away, and Bodil and Larnie Fox’s mask making group continues to deliver. The group of 70 makers has now distributed over 6,000 masks to 62 health care facilities and shows no signs of slowing down as the need persists.

Health care workers at Orchard Post Acute Care Vacaville show off their Benicia-made masks for Nurses Week.

“We keep thinking this thing will wind down, but unfortunately there is still a huge need for these things,” said Larnie Fox on Thur.

As of April 17, the group consisted of 51 makers and had distributed over 2,700 masks to 28 facilities. Those numbers have more than doubled in the past three weeks, showing the huge impact the group is making to help save lives.

“It’s nurses week this week so I am going to make goodie bags for our out patient nurses containing your masks,” said a nurse at Kaiser Vacaville. “Thank you. Clinics will open up soon so masks to this group will be appreciated.”
