Benicia Main Street will welcome summer with Wine Walk

May 20, 2016 by Nick Sestanovich Leave a Comment

Wine? Why not?

To usher in the summer season, Benicia Main Street will be hosting a wine walk. Participants can visit 22 participating First Street businesses, shop and enjoy a glass of wine.
The Wine Walk has been a tradition for Benicia Main Street since 2012 as a way to celebrate the start of new seasons, Valentine’s Day and more.

“We were noticing a lot of other communities like Martinez and Pleasanton were doing them,” Event Coordinator Deborah Housman said. “We noticed a growing trend with different downtowns, so we decided to do it ourselves.”

Participants will check in and receive a wristband and wine glass to take to any of the participating businesses along First Street, where they will be served a wine as well as an appetizer of the business’ choosing. Businesses taking part this year include Bookshop Benicia, Romancing the Home, Steffen Collection, Timeless Memories, Vintage Owl, Studio 41, Lindsay Art Glass, Charlie’s Attic, Spotless Carpet Cleaning, Milinda Perry Salon and Gallery, Jordan Real Estate, Christina S Fashion Destination, Coldwell Banker, Angel Heart 4 You, Zeppelin Comics and more.

Although a wine list has not been made available, Housman says the stores tend to have red, white and sparkling wines. Some of them are local, some are international and some come from different regions of the U.S.

“We have a good mixer,” she said.

Housman believes the event will be a good way for Benicians to not only enjoy wine but also support their local businesses.

“It’s a fun thing to do downtown, it gets people in the stores and it’s just sort of a nice afternoon of enjoying shopping and trying different wines,” she said.

The Wine Walk will be held from 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday, June 18. Check-in starts at Benicia Main Street, located at the depot on 90 First St., where ticket holders will be given a wine glass, wristband and map of tasting locations. Advance tickets are $30 for a single ticket and $55 for a pair of tickets. All tickets purchased on the day of the event are $35. Those who purchase a Designated Driver ticket will be able to enjoy snacks at any of the locations for $10.

Participants must be 21 or older, so have an ID ready. A limit of 300 tickets will be sold and can be purchased at the Benicia Main Street office or online at BeniciaMainStreet.org.
