Benicia brew to be served at Suisun beer bash

April 4, 2018 by Nick Sestanovich Leave a Comment

Even Solano gets the brews. The Fairfield-Suisun Rotary Club and Suisun City Recreation and Community Services Department will be hosting the first-ever BrewBash at the Basin, an event serving beers from craft breweries throughout Northern California with all proceeds benefiting local projects to support the youth of Fairfield and Suisun City.

Fourteen breweries from Vallejo to Auburn will be participating in this event, including Benicia’s very own Bruehol Brewing.

Bruehol was founded in 2014 by Mark Keller, Jerrod Hope, Mark Ristow and Steve Northcutt, and a taproom opened up in the Industrial Park in 2017. Keller has been interested in craft brewing since the opening of Speakeasy Brewing Company in San Francisco in the ‘90s. It was through frequent trips to the Northern California Homebrewers Festival with his friends that further inspired Keller and company to open their own brewery.

“After a few years of doing that, tasting other people’s beers and comparing our beers to commercial beers out there, we realized we were making better beers than a lot of commercial breweries,” he said.

After paperwork was approved for Bruehol in 2014, Keller and company began distributing their beers throughout Benicia, where Keller had grown up. Bruehol was poured at the city’s Oktoberfest event in 2016, and it is available around town at Cullen’s Tannery Pub, Lucca’s, The Chill, Rookie’s Bar and Grill, and the company’s very own taproom at 4828 East Second St. Additionally, visitors of Billco’s Billiards & Darts in Napa, EJ Phair Brewing Company in Concord, Lockdown Brewing Company in Folsom or the William Tell House Restaurant & Saloon in Tomales will find Bruehol on tap.

In terms of brews, Bruehol has about every style a craft beer enthusiast would want, from German-style pilsners to Helles lagers to Belgian white beers to porters to amber ales. Some of the beers are named after the area they represent. The Maritime Pale Ale is named after the CSU Maritime Academy in Vallejo, and the Old Capitol Pilsner refers to Benicia’s status as the former California capital. Keller said the company also has an imperial stout but has not released it yet.

For those wishing to get a taste of what Bruehol offers, the beers will be served at BrewBash in Suisun City next Saturday. Keller was contacted by the Solano Land Trust about the event, and he accepted an invitation to pour beers.

“We thought it would be a good way to get our name out there, meet people and share our great beers with the public,” he said.

Keller said Bruehol would likely be serving one of its India Pale Ales, as well as Maritime Pale Ale, and a pilsner or lager in anticipation of warmer weather.

“We might bring something special along to surprise people,” he said.

Bruehol will be in good company at the event. Other confirmed brewers include Napa Smith Brewery in Vallejo; Heretic Brewing Company, Blue Frog Brewing Company and Fairfield Fermentors Brew Club in Fairfield; St. Clair Brown Brewery in Napa; TrueSymmetry Brewing Company and Right Eye Brewing Company in Suisun City; Drake’s Brewing Company in San Leandro; Three Mile Brewing in Davis; Jack Rabbit Brewing Company in West Sacramento and Knee Deep Brewing Company in Auburn. Likewise, Vezer Family Vineyard in Suisun Valley will be pouring wine.

“You’re gonna see some of the best, fresh small-batch beers being presented,” Keller said of the event. “It’s a really great opportunity to interact and meet the brewery owners and spend time getting to know each brewery’s craft beers.”

BrewBash will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 14 at Sheldon Plaza, located at 562 Driftwood Drive in Suisun City. Advance tickets are $35 for general admission and $45 for VIPs. On the day of the event, the prices will increase to $40 for general admission and $50 for VIPs. General admission includes unlimited tastings, and VIP entry includes early admission, limited edition beers plus appetizers from local restaurants. The following weekend, Bruehol will be celebrating its anniversary at its taproom from noon to 10 p.m, Saturday, April 21. In addition to 10 beers on tap, barbecued tri-tip, chicken and links will be served.

“We look forward to seeing everyone and sharing our craft beer with everyone that comes,” Keller said.
