Benicia Biz Beat: Adobe shop to help St. Paul’s meal program

December 30, 2014 by Donna Beth Weilenman Leave a Comment

ADOBE SECOND CHANCE THRIFT SHOP, 929 First St., is donating 1 percent of its January sales to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church’s Wednesday-night free meal program.

Adobe Director Pat Purvis said many visitors to the city’s downtown shopping district know the Adobe Second Chance Thrift Shop shares the 900 block of First Street with many fine restaurants.

However, “Possibly not as well known is that our neighbor, St. Paul’s Church, serves a free meal on Wednesday nights,” Purvis said.

The thrift shop is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. — “plus,” Purvis said.

“Plus, meaning late hours, usually being open till 9:30 to 10 p.m. to accommodate late-night shopping,” he explained.

Those interested in learning whether the store is open late may call the shop at 707-745-4565, he said.

“Whether you are a buyer or a browser, we look forward to seeing you,” Purvis said.

First New Year’s Day run in Solano County is Thursday

The Sports Authority and Solano Fit are teaming up this year for the first Solano Resolution Run 5K, Ashley Williams, spokesperson, said.

The run will take place at the Solano Community College campus, 4000 Suisun Valley Road, Fairfield.

Also partnering with the two in organizing the event is Healthy Cooking with Kids, a nonprofit organization that is trying to promote community and school gardens throughout Solano County.

“According to Forbes, only 8 percent of people achieve their New Year’s resolutions,” Williams said, adding that the new 5-kilometer run “gives everyone a head start on their goals.”

The run begins at 11 a.m. Thursday. It is a family event, race coordinator Todd Rewick said.

“If you made a resolution this year, come celebrate it with a bunch of excited people ready to motivate each other,” Rewick said. “What better way to start the year than on the run?”

Those interested in volunteering for the run may email help@runtownevents.com.

Registration for the 5k race can be done online at www.SolanoResolutionRun.com or in person from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at the Sports Authority, Solano Town Center, 1350 Travis Blvd., Fairfield. Party gear and costumes are welcome.
