New fashion lines arrive at Vanite

Vanite, 374 First St., has its 2015 spring and summer lines of women’s fashions, Bernadette Carter said. More than 15 labels are represented at the shop, including the American-made POÉME, the Canadian label Artex, and Dolcezza, a Michael Phillips Company line made in Turkey.

Hand-painted, all-leather Magnifique purses made by artists in India have arrived, as have spring-colored garments in turquoise, orange and chartreuse by such existing lines as Clara Sunwoo, Vanite Couture, and Caribe.

Vacaville Ballet Company brings swashbucklers to stage

The Vacaville Ballet Company’s original swashbuckling pirate ballet “Mutiny!” will return May 15-17 to the Vacaville Performing Arts Theatre, 1010 Ulatis Drive, said Meghann Oakes, the company’s board of directors secretary.

The production, featuring music from the soundtracks of Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies and composed by Klaus Badelt and Hans Zimmer, is back by popular demand, she said.

Those attending the May 16 matinee also may go to the “Swashbuckling Soire,” she said, “for some grog and grub before you and your family set sail on this pirate adventure.”

She described the production as filled with “daring sword fights and adrenaline-pumping treasure hunts” during which pirates have to decide what they’re willing to lose, or to plunder from others to obtain their most precious treasure.

Artistic Director Cassandra Kamakeeaiana has added some twists to this edition of the ballet, and said “Mutiny!” would entertain both girls and boys

“Mutiny!” follows the open-sea adventure of a ship’s captain, portrayed by Vanden High School junior Alex Busto and Buckingham Charter School junior Jenna Fusaro, and the first mate, played by Will C. Wood junior Victoria Joyce and Vacaville Christian High School senior Katelyn Reid.

Oakes said the captain keeps searching for more gold and shedding innocents’ blood along the way. But during the last raid, the pirate crew finds itself divided, and the first mate and supporters who take a stand against the captain are tossed overboard.

Performances will be 7 p.m. Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16, and 1 p.m. Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17. Tickets range from $15 to $20 and are available at the Vacaville Performing Arts Theatre box office. Visit vacavilleballetcompany.org or vpat.net for more information.
