Benicia’s 10/11 all-stars won their first two games in the District 53 Tournament at Community Park before suffering a heart-breaking 7-6 loss to Napa National on Tuesday.

Benicia (2-1) opened the tournament with an easy 12-2 victory in four innings against Fairfield Atlantic last Friday. Pitcher Ben Saitz struck out seven batters in 3 1/3 innings to earn the win as Fairfield Atlantic managed only three hits. Benicia’s Gabriel Martinez had three hits all by himself while Trey Trias and Nui Fifita each had two RBIs. Benicia scored three runs in the first inning and eight more in the second for a commanding 11-0 lead.

Benicia followed up that win with a tough 12-10 victory over Sonoma on Sunday. Benicia jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and broke the game open with three runs in the fourth and four more runs in the fifth for a 12-5 lead. Sonoma made things close with five runs in the bottom of the sixth. T.J. Valentine went 3-for-3 with seven RBIs for Benicia. Dylan Trammell added three hits.

Benicia was one win away from advancing to the championship round before being derailed by unbeaten Napa National. Benicia trailed 7-3 starting the bottom of the sixth and rallied for three runs but came up short. Devin Mason had three RBIs for Benicia in the defeat.

Benicia took on Sonoma again on Wednesday night in an elimination game.
