Authorities: Inmate in California State Prison Solano murdered

May 6, 2015 by Donna Beth Weilenman 1 Comment

Identity of victim, 24, not released

A 24-year-old Alameda County man serving an eight-year sentence in the state prison in Vacaville was found dead Monday, Lt. Marlaina Dernoncourt said. The death is being called a homicide.

The man was missing during an inmate count being conducted about 4:30 p.m. Monday, Dernoncourt said. Escape protocols were launched, and a second emergency count was conducted, she said.

About 9:30 p.m. Monday, corrections employees found a body in a confined space inside the missing inmate’s housing unit, Dernoncourt said.

“At approximately 11:05 p.m., the body was positively identified as the missing inmate and appears to be the victim of a homicide,” she said.

California State Prison Solano opened in 1984. It is a medium-security prison housing approximately 3,800 general population inmates.

Besides his age and county of origin, Dernoncourt released little other information about the inmate, explaining that prison is awaiting notification of next of kin.

However, she said the man had been serving his sentence after conviction of second-degree robbery.

“An investigation is ongoing by CSP (California State Prison) Solano investigators, the Solano County Coroner, and the Office of Inspector General,” she said.

Is it be possible that this murder is gang related, southern Hispanic vs. northern Hispanic? Since CSP Solano is located next door to one of Northern reception centers, this prison I would imagine that the inmate population is Northern inmates, Inmate Rodriguez (Inmate who was murdered) was out of Alameda County, The only person who accused of the murder was Rodriguez’ cellmate who was from Los Angeles county, who was already serving a life sentence. Was the riot North and South related, was the riot a diversion to allow the murder to take place or allow the body to be removed from the cell to the trash can? There are a few northern California cities that are Southern sympathizers, ie. Hayward in Alameda County, City of San Francisco, etc. Why did the news of this murder not released until Mid July if the incident took place early May.
