Finance panel may change meeting time

Investments to be reviewed Benicia Finance Committee may start meeting an hour later, depending on Friday’s vote on the matter. The panel has been meeting at 8 a.m. every fourth Friday of the month, returning to morning meetings when a 2010 experiment with night meetings was discontinued.

18 displaced in Bay View Villa blaze

A fire, apparently started by a plumber repairing a bathroom, displaced 18 residents of Bay View Villas Apartments on Tuesday, Benicia Fire Division Chief K.C. Smith said Wednesday. Firefighters were called to the apartment complex at 900 Southampton Road about 10:28 a.m. Tuesday after someone reported a structure fire in Unit 65.

Benicia Public Library is about to get a lot more color. By unanimous vote last week, Benicia City Council agreed to accept the loan of two large oil paintings by the late artist Julius Hatofsky, which, because of their size, will be displayed elevated on the ceiling supports of the library.
