Familiar faces: Bell ringers, members of local groups, arrive at Raley’s

The weekend bell ringers at the Salvation Army bucket in front of Raley’s at Southampton Shopping Center should look familiar. They’re members of local civic organizations who, in association with the Community Action Council, are ringing bells and encouraging donations to the Benicia charity.

Police: Autopsy shows major trauma to pedestrian; investigation into East 5th Street accident continues

Benicia police are continuing the investigation of the Friday night accident in which city resident Arlen Ingle, 39, died after being hit as he crossed the street in the 1500 block of East Fifth Street, Lt. Frank Hartig said. Hartig said Ingle’s autopsy, performed Tuesday, showed the man sustained major trauma he couldn’t survive.

Bill would give doctors better access to end-of-life instructions

A bill introduced by State Sen. Lois Wolk, D-Davis, would give health care professionals access to an electronic record of patients’ end-of-life care instructions. Senate Bill 19 is eligible to be heard in January, when the state Legislature reconvenes.

Bonilla: Help more go to college

Assemblymember’s AB 17 would give families tax break Assemblymember Susan Bonilla, the Concord Democrat who represents Benicia, said Tuesday she would introduce legislation to help families who are saving for their children’s college expenses. Bonilla’s bill would provide tax relief for those investing in a Section 529 college saving plan, a state-run, tax-advantaged investment account.
