Berryessa’s 331K acres designated a national monument; officials cheer

President Barack Obama on Friday proclaimed Berryessa Snow Mountain one of three new national monuments. Obama said he chose Berryessa Snow Mountain because its landscape contains “rare biodiversity and an abundance of recreational opportunities.” Bald and golden eagles, black bears and tule elk are among the species living there.

Survey: Benicia among 50 safest cities in California

Benicia is among California’s 50 safest cities, a survey by ValuePenguin of Federal Bureau of Investigation crime reports has determined. The results were sent to the Benicia Office of Economic Development, which released the information this week. Interstate 680 to be repaved in Solano County

Interstate 680 between Benicia and Fairfield is being repaired and repaved, said Vince Jacala, CalTrans District 4 public affairs spokesperson. Drivers using that 13-mile stretch of highway may find their trips disrupted by the construction, particularly this week and continuing until spring 2016, he said.

STA to update Comprehensive Plan

With the help of Solano County, its seven cities and members of the public, Solano Transportation Authority is updating its Comprehensive Transportation Plan, called Solano 2040. The plan sets priorities for the area’s transportation needs as well as funding for the next 25 years, said Jayne Bauer, STA marketing and legislative program manager.
