Former Benicia High star athlete Austin Carr had himself quite a week for Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.
Carr, who graduated from Benicia High in 2011 and set Panthers football season records in rushing yards (1,481), combined rushing/receiving yards (2,325) and total points (196), was offered an athletic scholarship by Northwestern last week after playing the last three seasons as a walk-on.
Carr, now a redshirt junior with the Wildcats, celebrated the news by hauling in a 44-yard touchdown pass last Saturday in Northwestern’s 41-0 victory over Eastern Illinois. It was only the ninth reception of Carr’s career and his first collegiate touchdown catch.
Carr, who didn’t have a reception during Northwestern’s season-opening victory over Stanford on Sept. 5, played all l2 games for the Wildcats last season and had seven receptions for 100 yards. Carr has appeared in both of Northwestern games so far this season.
Carr was named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar last year, encompassing only student-athletes with a minimum grade-point average of 3.7 or higher for the previous academic year.
Congratulations Austin!
Northwestern is not an easy school to get into Austin and is family must be very proud, deservedly do.
Is Austin a relative iof former Benicia High grad Chet Carr?
