Summer is upon us, and the second Saturday of the month is tomorrow. This can only mean one thing: Benicia is hosting another Art Walk.

Art Walks provide an opportunity for residents and visitors to stop by any of the participating art galleries for a variety of surprises. As in the past, six galleries will be taking part by featuring art and special events.

Gallerie Renee Marie, located at 1038 First St., will be featuring artist Lorrimarie Jenkins and the opening of her show “Lorrimarie’s Whimsical Art Show: Time for Change.” The show will feature mixed media work the artist has created over the last four years. The exhibit will run through Aug. 7.

Lindsay Art Glass, located at 109 East F St., will feature glassblowing artist Nicholas Nourot. He is the son of famed glassblower Michael Nourot– who died last year– and Ann Nourot, another famous glassblower. With such lineage, Nicholas has made a name for himself, having been featured at the Benicia Historical Museum in 2012 and the Blackhawk Gallery in 2013. The Art Walk will provide opportunities to see the artist at work.

At her studio and gallery on 117 East D St., painter Mernie Buchanan will be showcasing her latest series of canine paintings. There will also be guest paintings by Benicia artist Marcie Orendorf and her series “Storybook.” Additionally, there will be live music performed nearby.

Gallery 621, located at 309 First St., will be presenting the opening reception of Stephen Schumm’s “Contents and Contexts.” The exhibit features new works of collage and acrylic on canvas and will run through July 31.

Another reception will be hosted at Benicia Plein Air Gallery, located at 307 First St. “California Gold” will be showcasing the work of member artist Iris Sabre and will run through July 31. The reception will provide a chance to meet the artist.

Finally, Once Upon a Canvas, located in the Tannery Building at 129 First St., will be hosting demonstrations and classes throughout the day. The demonstrations will begin at noon when ceramic sculpture teacher Meagan Peterson will do a hands-on clay demonstration. Sue Kleiman will be teaching a decorative painting class from 2 to 4 p.m., and Linda Peonsin and Tom Contreras will be doing demos as well.

Additionally, live music will be performed by violinist Sven Chilton and Wayne De La Cruz. Not far from Once Upon a Canvas, Cullen’s Tannery Pub will be hosting a “Whiskies of the Presidents” tasting event during the Art Walk. Participants must be 21 or older to take part in this event.

All Art Walks will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on the second Saturdays of July, September and October. For more information, visit Facebook.com/BeniciaArtWalk.
