Another sweep for BHS tennis

Benicia High’s girls tennis team swept host Fairfield last Thursday, 9-0, and remained unbeaten through the first third of the Solano County Athletic Conference schedule.

Melanie Fisher (No. 2), Madeline Beyer (No. 3), Madison Lammert (No. 4) and Kaitlyn Tang (No. 5) each won 6-0, 6-0 in singles competition. Lily Hayward was a 6-1, 6-0 winner in No. 1 singles, and freshman Frankie Soto was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 6 singles in her varsity debut.

Benicia’s doubles teams were just as dominant. Katie Steineman and Mariah McNally teamed up for a 6-1, 6-1 victory in No. 1 doubles. Sam Pacheco and Viva Traver swept their No. 2 doubles match, 6-0, 6-0, and Justine Haarberg and Ashley Ko won their No. 3 doubles match by default.

Benicia (5-0 SCAC) begins the second leg of the conference schedule Tuesday at home against Vanden (2-3 SCAC).
