Annual charitable fashion show returns with ‘Greatest Showman’ theme

April 24, 2018 by George Johnston Leave a Comment

Ladies and gents, this is the moment you’ve waited for as the annual fashion show benefiting Benicia Community Action Council (CAC) is this Wednesday.

Local celebrities and people from all walks of life in Benicia will model clothes from Christina S Fashion Destination and Williamson & Co. Amidst all the stylish attires being paraded down the catwalk will be food, music and proceeds benefiting a good cause.

The theme of this year’s fashion show is “The Greatest Show on Earth,” which takes inspiration from “The Greatest Showman,” last year’s musical biopic starring Hugh Jackman as circus mogul P.T. Barnum. The theme will be represented in the atmosphere, but not necessarily the fashion choices. Previous themes have included “Star Wars,” “La La Land” and the ‘70s.

“Men and women come, and it is a really fun couple of hours of fashions and music,” CAC Treasurer Michele Hughes said. “It’s just a fun day, and it is for a great cause.”

Benicia CAC is a nonprofit organization involved in charitable acts like delivering hot, nutritious meals to home-bound seniors or helping low-income youth take advantage of on-the-job training opportunities. The group acquires its funding through small grants and donations. Profits from “The Greatest Show on Earth” will go to the CAC to help fund the Senior Meals program.

The event will also honor Helen Estes,a former CAC board member and longtime Benicia resident who died in December. During her time on the CAC, she served on the Fundraising Committee where she sold meals in the park during events, and she helped organize the annual Fashion Fundraiser.

The fundraiser will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m at the Benicia Clocktower, located at 1189 Washington St. There will be a buffet luncheon catered by Venticellos Ristorante Italiano.  Ticket prices are $40 and can be picked up at Christina S, located at 370 First St. For further information, contact Hughes at 373-7571.
