AmCan man accused of running over 2 women in Vallejo

October 21, 2014 by Donna Beth Weilenman Leave a Comment

A 20-year-old American Canyon man, accused of running over two women Saturday afternoon, has been arrested after leading Vallejo police on a chase after the suspect returned to the accident scene, Lt. Kevin Bartlett said.

The two women were found lying on the pavement at Laurel Street and Benicia Road, Vallejo, and someone flagged patrol officers about 1:33 p.m. Saturday, Bartlett said.

At the time, he said, the motorist believed to have run over the women had left the area.

The victims, one of whom has been identified as a former girlfriend of the suspect, were taken to local hospitals for treatment for moderate injuries, Bartlett said.

Bartlett declined to release the names of the victims, but said one was taken to a local hospital and the other was sent to a local trauma center.

He said while officers were investigating the incident, witnesses and officers noticed the man identified as the suspected assailant driving past the scene.

Vallejo police chased the man through central Vallejo streets after he failed to yield to officers, Bartlett said.

The pursuit ended at Tennessee Street and Oakwood Avenue, Vallejo, where the suspect’s vehicle was stopped by what Bartlett described as a “pursuit immobilization technique” and “The driver gave up and was taken into custody without incident.”

He said the attack was being described as a “domestic violence incident,” and that the two women and the man know each other.

“There was a past dating relationship between one of the victims and the suspect,” he said.

Bartlett identified the suspect as Jon-Luke Laprote of American Canyon. Laprote, who was booked into Solano County Jail, Fairfield, faces two charges of attempted murder and evading police without regard to safety.

Bail for the latter charge is $15,000, but no bond was set for the other charges.

Bartlett said anyone with information about the incident may call Vallejo Police Traffic Division, 800-488-9383, or through Solano Crime Stoppers’ tip line, 707-644-STOP.
