Joel Fallon, who died in 2016 was Benicia’s first Poet Laureate. Benicia Literary Arts is releasing The Book of Joel, selected poems by Fallon this Sunday at the Benicia State Capitol from 5-6:30 p.m.

BENICIA – Benicia Literary Arts announces its latest publication, The Book of Joel, selected poems by Benicia’s first Poet Laureate, Joel Fallon, as compiled by former Poet Laureate Don Peery. We cordially invite the public to this free book-launch event at the Benicia State Capitol Building, 115 West G Street, Benicia, from 5 to 6:30 pm on Sunday, May 19.

Joel Fallon, who died in 2016, inspired generations of local poets, encouraging them to write and to share their work. He founded Benicia’s First Tuesday Poetry Group with an attitude of acceptance and generosity towards poets of all ages.

Joel’s firm belief that anyone could learn to be a poet motivated him to bring his love of poetry to Benicia schools, where he gently nurtured many young poets’ first attempts at self-expression. Joel’s sense of humor, his kindness, his love of life—with all its ups and downs—leaps off the pages of The Book of Joel.

Don Peery, Benicia’s fifth Poet Laureate and a close friend of Joel’s, lovingly chose and arranged the poems in the collection. He and other friends of Joel will read their favorite poems from the book at the event.

Books will be available for purchase, and refreshments will be available in the garden, after the event. For more information, visit http://www.benicialiteraryarts.org/.
