9/10s drop into loser’s bracket

July 6, 2016 by Steve Guertin Leave a Comment

Benicia Little League’s 9/10 all-stars just didn’t have it Tuesday night in a devastating 17-2 loss to Sonoma at the District 53 Tournament in American Canyon.

Sonoma (2-0) had a slim 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning but batted around for 14 runs to turn the game into a rout. Sonoma has scored 30 runs in two games during the tournament.

Benicia (1-1), which scored 14 runs in its opener against Vallejo National last Saturday, managed only six hits (five of them singles) against Sonoma and struck out six times. Jaden Mason went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI while teammate Peyton Rowles singled in a run and scored a run.

Benicia doesn’t play again until Friday and will take on either Napa National or Middletown in an elimination game. Friday’s winner will need only one more victory to reach the championship round.
