10/11 all-stars suffer first loss

July 6, 2016 by Steve Guertin Leave a Comment

Benicia’s 10/11 all-stars dropped into the loser’s bracket in their District 53 Tournament after a 14-7 loss to Napa National in Fairfield on Tuesday.

A three-run homer by Noah Peterson in the top of the fifth inning pulled Benicia to within 8-7, but Napa National responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning to reach the championship round unbeaten.

“We were terrible,” said Benicia manager Josh Gibbons. “We made a couple errors and Napa National hit the ball really well. They were the better team tonight.”

Ryan Malte had a double and a single while teammate Kevwe Ojo also had two hits.

Benicia (2-1) takes on St. Helena in an elimination game Wednesday night.
