For the second straight week, Benicia High’s girls varsity cross country team took first place in a Solano County Athletic Conference meet while the Benicia boys finished second.
Running at Fairfield’s Rockville Park in Wednesday’s second SCAC meet of the season, the Lady Panthers (2-0 SCAC) easily ran to a first-place finish with 23 points. Vanden finished a distant second with 52 points, followed by American Canyon (59).
Benicia freshman Alexandra Menjibar-Moore won the individual event with a time of 21.04, two seconds ahead of Vanden’s Maile Dismuke. Menjibar-Moore has won both SCAC meets so far this season.
Hanna Keala had a strong run for the Lady Panthers, finishing fourth with a time of 22:02. Teammate Rachel Kravitz was seventh in 22:42, with Victoria Kim eighth in 23:11.
Benicia’s boys were without senior Luis Ramirez – who won at last week’s SCAC opener in Vallejo – but got a strong performance from Daylon Garcia. The junior won Wednesday with a time of 16:56, well ahead of Vanden’s Erick Fierro, who finished second in 17:13.
The Panthers didn’t have much depth and finished with 45 points, well behind meet champion Vanden (23) but ahead of American Canyon (69). Jacob Hoenig finished fifth (17:55) for the Panthers. Teammate James Hanzel finished 14th (18:44).
