Wine, chocolate on tap for Benicia Main Street event tomorrow

February 2, 2018 by George Johnston 3 Comments

Wine and chocolate connoisseurs should be delighted because Benicia Main Street’s Wine & Chocolate Walk returns tomorrow.
The Wine and Chocolate Walk is an annual event which allows attendees over the age of 21 an opportunity to try wine and chocolate pairings at downtown businesses. Beginning in 2012, the walk is one one the most popular events amongst the other downtown walks Benicia Main Street puts on, according to Deborah Housman, Benicia Main Street event coordinator. Other annual walks include the St. Patrick’s Day Beer Crawl in March and Zombie Brew Crawl in October.
Housman said downtown Benicia merchants are always eager to sign up and partake in the Wine and Chocolate Walk. Twenty-two merchants will be apart of the Wine and Chocolate Walk this year, including Angel Heart 4 You, Benicia Magazine, Benicia Main Street, Bookshop Benicia, Christina S Fashion Destination, Coldwell Banker Solano Pacific, Dianna’s Bakery & Café, Elisa’s Cottage, Gallerie Renee Marie, Glen Cove Farm, Hamann Real Estate, Heritage Pantry & Spice, Lindsay Art Glass, Once Upon A Canvas, Roberto’s Fine Jewelry, Romancing the Home, Spotless Carpet Cleaning, Timeless Memories,The Little Art Shop, The Steffen Collection, The Vintage Owl and Wellness Wisdom.
Over 200 tickets have already sold out. Housman says that is a good sign because a majority of tickets sell out during the final two days before the walk. Remaining tickets will be sold don the day of the Wine and Chocolate Walk at a higher price of $35 for a single ticket.
A variety of wines are going to be served at the walk. Some wines will be local and others imported from international sources.
It is up to the individual merchant what chocolates will be served at their establishments, but Housman said merchants get creative with the chocolates.
“It’s going to be a great afternoon,” she said. “The weather– and I can’t believe it is going to February weather– is going to be 70 degrees. Go inside the businesses and try the wine and chocolate and come inside and shops. It’s a fun afternoon, and I can’t think of a better time to spend your Saturday.”
Ticket prices for the walk are $30 advance for a single ticket and $55 in advance for a pair of tickets. Included in the tickets are 15 wine tastings and one complimentary Benicia Main Street wine glass per person. Attendees can check in for a walk around 12:30 p.m. at Benicia Main Street’s office at 90 First St. in the Southern Pacific Railroad Depot. The event begins at 1 p.m. tomorrow and continues until 5 p.m.

Chocolate lovers won’t find this news too much of a surprise: The rich, sensuous confection of chocolate contains compounds that turn on the same receptors in the brain as marijuana.
