Benicia, CA— The results of the call to help local Coast Guard families with food, gift cards and cash donations this weekend was a wonderful success according to organizers.
“While there are still some donation pledges left to collect,” said Terry Scott, including pledged gas cards from Valero, “volunteers raised more than $7,000 in cash and gift cards.”
“As importantly, we provided the Chief Petty Officers Association with about five full SUV loads of canned goods, diapers, fresh foods, produce, paper goods and more.”
The organizers, Terry Scott and Bernard Wormgoor, want to thank Ironhorse Home Furnishings for letting them use their Benicia showroom as the donation drop off center.
If the shutdown continues, they plan to continue the donation drive. They are currently working on developing further community donation drives.
This donation drive is being coordinated with the Chief Petty Officer Association (CPOA) Golden Gate Chapter for the Bay Area. The CPOA is a tax deductible 501 C (19) with a primary mission to help Coast Guard members in times of need.
