Among other things, the 2016 Solano County Fair will be a place for the artistically inclined to shine, as organizers have announced the new “We’re All Family” Fine Arts Award. Winners of this reward will receive a cash prize as well as an opportunity to have their work showcased for an entire year.
“Artists showcasing their work at the Solano County Fair can compete for an opportunity to have their work on display at Solano County Family Health Services clinics,” Fair General Manager Stephen Price said in a statement. “This partnership really expands our ability to showcase the Solano community.”
Painters, graphic artists and photographers can submit their work, but only 20 will be able to win. Winners will receive a $125 premium in addition to other awards received in the fair’s competitive exhibits program. Winners will also have their works displayed on the walls of Family Health Services clinics in Fairfield, Vacaville and Vallejo for up to one year.
There will also be other fine arts categories in the areas of open art, amateur art, photography, local color, poetry and more. Recipients can also receive a $150 Best of Show award, a $50 Reserve Best of Show award and a $50 Donald Scheper Creativity Award. If an artist wins all the top honors, they will receive more than $400 in premiums for their work.
“We hope this new award will encourage even more Solano County artists to showcase their work at the Solano County Fair,” Pierce said.
To enter into the competition, prospective applicants should visit SCFair.com/competitions.html and click on the “Fair Forms.” Artists who have already submitted entries should bring their completed “We’re All Family” forms when they drop off their artwork at the fairgrounds. The deadline to submit all entries is Friday, July 1.

I’d expect there to be some pretty high quality and interesting work on display, given the amount of talented painters, graphic artists and photographers in the area.
