Solano County Board of Supervisors has appointed Mike Coakley of Vallejo as a District 1 member of the Board of Directors of the Solano County Fair Association, Debbie Egidio, fair media contact, said Monday.
Coakley’s term will end July 31, 2015, she said.
“Each of the five districts within the county is represented by three directors, who are each appointed by their district’s county supervisor,” Egidio said.
Coakley was appointed April 1 by District 1 Supervisor Erin Hannigan, and will fill the seat that became vacant when Katy Miessner resigned after she was elected to the Vallejo City Council.
Coakley is a property manager with Cirimele Property Management. He manages 350 properties in Vallejo and Benicia.
“His work in this field has given him an extensive knowledge of the community, working with both long-term and new residents to the area,” Egidio said.
Before moving into property management, Coakley had a 40-year career in telecommunications, working 30 years with AT&T, for which he became the district marketing manager for Central California. He spent another 10 years as a communications consultant in Fresno.
Coakley is or has been a member of several boards, commissions and philanthropic organizations throughout central and northern California, Egidio said.
He also has been a member of three separate Grand Juries in El Dorado and Solano counties and is past president of the Blue Rock Springs Golf Course Board.
Begun in 1949 to produce the annual Solano County Fair, the association is a nonprofit agency governed by a board that is appointed by the Solano County Board of Supervisors.
Current members are Norma Placido, Dennis Yen and Coakley for District 1; Patricia Moreira and Carole Paterson for District 2, which includes Benicia; the current board president, Ray Bell, Gary Falati and Raymond Simonds for District 3; Vice President Denese Allen, Joseph Lopez and William Luiz for District 4; and John Cronin, Treasurer Marilyn
Royse and Lee Williams for District 5.
A third member to represent District 2 has yet to be appointed, Egidio said.
The Solano County Fair Association has been producing educational, cultural, artistic, commercial and recreational programs all year at the multipurpose fairgrounds in Vallejo for more than 60 years, she said.
