Vallejo police will get a new chief in October. Before that, they’re opening up to the public.
Residents and visitors who want to tour Vallejo Police Department and meet its employees will get that opportunity next month during the department’s open house, Lt. John Whitney said.
“The entire police department will be on display,” he said.
“Visitors will be able to take tours, watch demonstrations and explore our vehicles.”
Command staff and supervisors, police officers, records employees, and police Cadets, Explorers and Volunteers will be greeting those visiting the department, Whitney said.
Vallejo’s newest K-9 member, Sparks, will be among the dogs performing K-9 demonstrations.
Besides patrol cars, visitors can see armored and emergency rescue vehicles as well as police motorcycles.
Department employees will tell the story of the department’s history, and explain the city’s Neighborhood Law Program. Visitors also will be given fire safety tips, Whitney said.
Vallejo police has planned special activities for children, he said.
“Bring your bikes to ride the cone course, and get tips from Bicycle Patrol officers,” he said. The first 150 children who participate will get a free bicycle helmet, he said.
The youngsters can play in the jump house and challenge an obstacle course. Department employees will give them the opportunity to be fingerprinted, and balloon animals and other games will entertain the children, who will get a chance to win prizes.
The Vallejo Police Open House will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Vallejo Police Department building, 111 Amador St., Vallejo.
