The Benicia Unified School District Board of Trustees will meet Thursday for an early and abbreviated session so that board members may attend various Back To School Night events at schools throughout the district.
The closed session meeting will begin at 5 p.m. and the public session will begin at 6 p.m., about an hour earlier than usual.
Dr. Karen Dubrule, director of curriculum and instruction, will request the board consider adding a board seat to the District Curriculum Council.
The DCC, comprised of teacher and administrative representatives from the district, is an advisory council that makes recommendations to the superintendent and board after researching and discussing issues and their potential impact on student achievement.
The new seat would be a way to address the DCC’s request for “timely input and increased awareness of DCC deliberations and actions,” Dubrule wrote in a report to the board.
She recommended the board appoint a board representative to serve on the DCC or establish a rotating schedule for DCC meeting participation.
Also Thursday, the board will be asked to authorize two district officials, Superintendent Janice Adams and Chief Business Officer Tim Rahill, to sign child care contracts and contracts for the 2012-13 fiscal year.
