The Tourism Committee of the Economic Development Board will meet for the final time of 2012 on Thursday.
One of the updates they will hear is about the preparation of a Benicia booklet for visitors to the city.
“The genesis of this idea was, wouldn’t it be nice to have all of our materials in one spot?” Economic Development Manager Mario Giuliani said Tuesday. “Renee (Stewart) and Laurie (Key) have taken up the initiative to put that together. It’s an opportunity to share those thoughts.”
In other business, staff will update the committee on the status of the Waterfront Park Master Plan.
“I will let the committee know when the public meetings are scheduled. Should they want to participate in the audience, they can do that,” Giuliani said.
The committee also will hear updates from representatives of glass arts, marketing, performing arts, real estate and other businesses.
“This gives those representing those groups an opportunity to share their observations,” Giuliani said.
Also Thursday, the committee will review its 2013 calendar. It is expected to continue to meet on the second Thursday of each month at the Community Center from 9-10:15 a.m.
Scheduled dates for the committee to meet in 2013 are: Jan. 10, Feb. 14, March 14, April 11, May 9, June 13, July 11, Aug. 8, Oct. 10, Nov. 14 and Dec. 12. There is no scheduled committee meeting for September.

I recently purchased a condo in Benicia so I watch this blog. I am the President of the Palm Springs Hotel association and and have a long history with Destination marketing. I am pleased that you are producing a visitors brochure, well done, however you do not want to put them in one spot. You put them in multiple spots where the tourists are to invite them to Benicia. There is a service called certified that have racks all over the place, in hotels, top tourist places in San Francisco. Put them there.
Are you aware of the SF convention visitors bureau “across the bridges” program to promote place like Benicia? If not reach out to them.

As the owner of Spoonful of Sugar on First Street and one of the few shops that is open until 8pm and on Monday’s, I think it is very needed. I continue to be surprised at the growing number of out-of-towner’s who come to explore Benicia. I am asked numerous times for suggestions on where to eat, shop and places to visit. I send people to the Arsenal not knowing what is open, what business are there, if the Camel Barn is open. My humble opinion would be to not just list shops, restaurants and places but to share a little about each place.
