The Tim and Jeannie Hamann Foundation will be hosting its annual dinner and auction to benefit research for cancer patients, but this time it will be returning to Benicia.
The Hamanns began doing fundraising auctions in 2004 out of their home, which they continued to do for the next five years. For the following six years, they hosted the event in Napa, and now they will be holding it at Ironhorse Home Furnishings. Jeannie, a local realtor, says she started doing cancer assistance fundraising auctions when she participated in the Relay for Life to benefit a friend of hers who had stage four breast cancer.
“I knew a couple of people who needed help that were going through cancer and either lacked insurance or unable to work,” she said. “We decided to do a nonprofit to not only help for cancer research for Relay for Life but also help patients locally in need.”
Thus, the Tim and Jeannie Hamann Foundation was formed to assist with cancer research, bills and even providing groceries and gas cards. Funds are earmarked to go directly to the Sutter Solano Cancer Center in Vallejo to provide transportation.
“They have a wonderful cancer center where they do different treatments as well as a radiation unit,” Hamann said. “There’s a lot of patients who don’t have ways to get to their treatment, and the people there are the ones that know those that need the help. Many people in the community have supported this for the last 12 years.”
People who attend the fundraiser will enjoy many varieties of wine poured by different vendors as well as a dinner including prime rib, chicken piccata, roasted vegetables, salad and desserts. There will also be a silent auction featuring artwork, glassware, furniture and a ticket for a sea cruise. Those who purchase a $100 raffle ticket will also be eligible to win a 1977 Corvette. Only 500 tickets will be sold, and ticket holders do not have to be present to win this classic automobile.
Hamann says the event will be a good way to help those in need, and a lot of people working on the event are cancer survivors.
“Everyone’s been touched by it in one way or another,” she said. “We didn’t realize until we started seeing people just how many are in need. It’s a wonderful community event that continues to grow, and we’re happy to have it back in Benicia.”
The auction and dinner will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday, May 20 at Ironhorse, located at 990 Grant St. Tickets are $90 per person, and the attire is business casual. For tickets and additional information, contact Hamann at 246-6567 or Nicky Olsson at 747-9300.
