Mayor and City Attorney Report on Tannery (Dec. 3, 1942)
Mayor Charles G. Clyne and City Attorney Harold Simon who went to Los Angeles recently in the interest of the Benicia Tannery sale, reported at the City Council Tuesday night that up to that time the contract which was completed in Los Angeles had not been signed but that they expected it would be sent soon.
A Mr. Thomas, who purchased the house and lot known as the home of Dutch Annie appeared before the board and stated that he had found the house to be in the middle of an 80 foot street and requested the city to abandon 40 feet. Attorney suggested that the deed to the property be recorded first and then the matter could be adjusted.
Traffic stops for the safety of the school children and a junior traffic system was discussed but no action taken.
It was reported that the boat to be used as a fish grotto would be moved here soon and anchored off the Vallejo-Benicia road at the site of the old city dump..

Protest set over CEC’s ‘done deal’ (Nov. 29, 1992)
By Sarah Rohrs
Monday morning, several dozen Crockett and Glen Cove residents will picket the California Energy Commission over what they believe is the “done deal” atmosphere surrounding the approval of a 240-megawatt power plant at the C&H sugar refinery.
The “done deal” refers to various media reports about the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors’ approval of a $25 million mitigation package to Crockett to help offset the effects of the power plant, Power Plant Committee member Ruth Blankeney of Crockett said.
Blankeney said the group is afraid that because the supervisors approved the $350,000-a-year package, there’s a widespread assumption the Crockett community supports the $250 million cogeneration facility. She said the opposite is actually the case.
“We just want to let the energy commission and the world know that we’re against this plant and the majority of Crockett is against it,” she said.
A press conference will begin at 9 a.m. in front of the CEC offices, 1516 Ninth St., in Sacramento with state Sen. Daniel Boatwright, D-Concord, and a representative from state Sen. Mike Thompson, D-Napa.
The full articles of these and other stories are available on microfilm at the Benicia Public Library.
