BENICIA – Three Benicia sisters from the Souza familiy stuffed 500 plastic Easter eggs with chocolate candy for the local charity Hoppy Helpers.
“Their eggs were used in most of our 130 baskets distributed through six local charities this year,” said Hoppy Helpers Founder Jennifer Sundberg.
Originally, the sisters’ girl scout dens were supposed to help them, but were unable to meet due to shelter-at-home orders.
The family also assembled 10 Easter baskets at home using “at home basket assembly kits” provided by Hoppy Helpers, which were later delivered by St. Vincent de Paul, in Benicia, to local children as part of their Easter Food Box program.
Using “at home basket kits” and built in “quarantine periods” during each stage of the process, and through the generous donations and support of local individuals and groups like The Benicia Mom’s Group, Love Is, and Aces Cracked Entertainment, Hoppy Helpers was able to overcome the unique obstacles presented by the current crisis to deliver a moment of childhood magic to local children through the organization’s local 501c charity partners, including Benicia Community Action Council, Vallejo Together, and St. Vincent de Paul.
“In addition to those who donated money or materials, there were many local crafters who volunteered their time making special notes from the Easter bunny to tie to baskets and even stuffed fabric eggs and craft kits for the children,” said Sundberg.
This is Hoppy Helpers third year in operation. Last year, the non-profit was able to deliver 300 baskets to local children, primarily in Solano County.
