Our Favorites
Sitting at breakfast at First Street Cafe (440 First Street), this past Sunday, December 10, 2017, it’s time for a confessional: This is our favorite eating place in all of Benicia! Ever since they opened under owners, Mark and Terry Krull some nearly 22 years ago in 1996, wife Janice and I have been coming here like patrons in the Promised Land. It’s just that yummy! The management and staff are outstanding, service is great and inviting whether it’s a Saturday night dinner or Sunday morning breakfast. Last year we also reserved the Upstairs for Jan’s 70th birthday dinner, it was a Hoot with a roomful of friends. Some of our favorites at FSC are:
* Crab Bruschetta
* Seafood Fettuccini Alfredo (when diced clams are available)
* Thick bacon with breakfast and a Morning Waffle (Made with malt!)
* Omelettes to die for: rich, thin envelope loaded with
ham, cheddar cheese and mushrooms
* Biscuits, scones and bagels; and Acme Bread from Berkeley, all tops!
* Salmon Caesar Salad (Large for take-home leftovers)
* Beef Sliders! Awesome!
* Bogle Chardonnay for Jan,
Heinz-Eifel Reisling for Peter
* Open-faced steak sandwich on Acme Rye with melted cheddar cheese
* Salmon Eggs Benedict
* Creme Brulee
* Laced-top Cherry pie
* Excellent fruit jam and a live flower
always on the table!
* Coffee to equal Peet’s or Starbucks
When Jan’s mother Bowie passed away in 1999, we came to First Street Cafe for dinner after the Memorial and commiserating. When daughters Michelle and Cathy passed away in 2007 and 2012 due to an aggressive cancer and Crohn’s Disease, we dragged ourselves to FSC for a quiet home dinner away from home. After a hard day’s work on Saturdays, I call in for Take-home dinners, and make reservations for a Sunday breakfast. Never close, you guys!
Morning Song
You caught me with your Morning Song,
I’ll sing it with you all day long,
it’s just that good, good, good.
Tomorrow we’ll sing another song,
and if you’re around, you can sing along –
Every Mocking Bird loves its branches,
birds in the trees all have their needs,
every feral cat hungers just the same.
Joey’s in the attic,
sometimes a little erratic,
but love only swings his tail,
love only swings his tail –
He too has his Morning Song.
He too has his Morning Song.
