■ Police say William Cordoba, arrested in Lima with help of U.S. marshals, will be extradited to California
A Vallejo man suspected of murdering another Vallejo resident has been arrested in Lima, Peru and is awaiting extradition to California, Vallejo police Capt. James O’Connell said Friday.
The man, identified as William Cordoba, was taken into custody by Peruvian authorities March 21 based on a provisional arrest request by the United States, O’Connell said.
The arrest came after the investigation into the slaying of Jimmie Richardson, 27, who was found Feb. 4, 2013, on Evelyn Circle, Vallejo, dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
An investigation of the murder led Vallejo police to suspect Cordoba, then 32, as the possible shooter, O’Connell said, and the department obtained a Solano County Superior Court Warrant for his arrest in connection with the case.
As the investigation continued, Vallejo police began collaborating with United States Marshals, O’Connell said.
They discovered Cordoba was in Peru and began requesting the paperwork that would lead to his arrest.
O’Connell said the U.S. provisional arrest request seeks Cordoba’s extradition to California.
“Cordoba will ultimately be extradited from Peru to Vallejo to face murder charges,” he said.
“The Vallejo Police Department would like to recognize the hard work of the U.S. Marshals Service, the Office of International Affairs, the Solano County District Attorney’s Office and the Peruvian law enforcement officials, all of whom contributed greatly to the capture of Cordoba,” O’Connell said.
