Just when you thought the storms were over, they come back today and pick up again on the weekend. Although these new storms are expected to be a lot less intense than the one that hit on Tuesday of last week, the city is advising residents to be cautious.
Today’s storm is expected to be heaviest in the afternoon through Thursday with breezy and gusty winds. Meanwhile, water levels remain at about half a foot to a foot above the predicted levels, and the high tide is expected to be in the 5.5 to 6.0 range. Combined with runoff and rain falling into the already saturated soils could result in flooding in low lying areas and additional runoff, the city wrote in a report. Residents are also advised to be prepared for downed trees.
Another storm is forecast for Friday through Saturday with the possibility of a third storm on Sunday through Monday. The city reported that the police, fire and public works departments will be on hand to monitor the situation.
While the region is going through its dry period today, the city is encouraging residents to use this opportunity to prepare, including making sure the drains are clear and sump pumps are functioning, leaves and other debris are cleared, and food and water are available if the power goes out. Residents are also asked to be prepared to evacuate if necessary.

I have not been up to Lake Herman in a while. Is it nearing the overflow stage yet?
