Kelsi Norman and Cameron Jacobson turned in some amazing performances for the Benicia Stingrays swim team at last Saturday’s East County Invitational, held at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg.
Norman, swimming in the girls 15-18 division, took first place in the 100 backstroke (1:06.23), 100 breaststroke (1:11.94) and 100 IM (1:06) and also took second in the 100 freestyle (58.84). Norman won the High Point “A” Division title and broke four Stingrays records in the process. Norman set new team standards in the 100 freestyle and 100 IM, eclipsing Sarah Chin’s old mark in both events set in 1999. She broke her own team record in the breaststroke and broke Lauren Cayford’s 12-year-old record in the backstroke.
Jacobson finished in the top three in all five individual events in the boys 10-under division. Jacobson won the 50 breaststroke (38.19), finished second in the 50 freestyle (31.19) and took third place in the 50 butterfly (39.45), backstroke (40.53) and 100 IM (1:28.49).
Lily Lassanhn was the star for Benicia’s 6-under girls, winning the 25 breaststroke (28.47), taking second in the 25 freestyle (24.55) and third in the 25 butterfly (29.76). Julia Lindemuth finished third in the 13-14 girls 50 freestyle (27.67).
Matthew Simonson took second place in the 15-18 boys 100 butterfly (56.85) and finished third in the 100 freestyle (50.50) and backstroke (1:02.18). Robert Patocchi took third in the 11-12 boys 50 backstroke (34.97).
