With the help of Solano County, its seven cities and members of the public, Solano Transportation Authority is updating its Comprehensive Transportation Plan, called Solano 2040.
The plan sets priorities for the area’s transportation needs as well as funding for the next 25 years, said Jayne Bauer, STA marketing and legislative program manager.
“STA is visiting locations throughout Solano County, seeking input on the plan,” Bauer said.
The STA is responsible for countywide transportation planning; programming transportation funds; managing and providing transportation programs and services; delivering transportation projects; and setting transportation priorities in Solano County.
Bauer said the STA has put a survey tool online so members of the public can express their views about the plan, particularly the transportation they value highest.
They also can say how STA should improve transportation in the county.
Solano 2040 looks at policies, programs and projects for transportation in Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Suisun City, Vacaville and Vallejo as well as in unincorporated Solano County, Bauer said.
The plan also covers connections to neighboring counties and other parts of northern California.
The most recent version of STA’s Comprehensive Transportation Plan, CTP 2030, was revised beginning in 2005, and contains three elements: Active Transportation, a segment that was approved in 2014; Arterials, Highways and Freeways; and Transit and Rideshare.
Programs and projects for Solano County and its cities must be listed in Solano 2040 if they are to be eligible for regional, state or federal transportation funds. Inclusion in the Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s Regional Transportation Plan, called Plan Bay Area, also is required, Bauer said.
STA distributes those transportation funds based on the Solano CTP and Plan Bay Area, she said.
“It is important that every resident of Solano County has the opportunity to have their voice heard in shaping Solano County’s transportation priorities,” she said.
