St. Patrick’s Day Beer Crawl returns with new beers

March 2, 2017 by Nick Sestanovich Leave a Comment

For the third year in a row, St. Patrick’s Day festivities will come to Benicia a week earlier through the St. Patrick’s Day Beer Crawl.

Benicia Main Street hosted this event for the first time in 2015 after it failed to book the Clock Tower in time for its annual chili cook-off. As a substitute, the organization noticed that beer crawls— where participants go from business to business to sample beers— were becoming popular in other communities. Benicia Main Street had already had success with its similar Wine Walks, so another beverage-based event was added to the repertoire.

The initial event was a big success, and the followup year in 2016 turned out to be just as popular. Therefore, a third event was bound to happen.

As in previous years, participants will be given a sampling glass, map of participating businesses and identification wristband upon purchasing tickets. From there, they can sample some of the finest craft brews from the Bay Area and beyond. However, those who attended the first two events should not expect the same lineup of beers as before. The journey, for those who choose to stop by every participating business, will look a little something like this:

* Benicia Main Street will be pouring Smithwick’s, known as “Ireland’s oldest ale.”

* Heritage Pantry & Spice will continue the Irish theme by pouring Guinness Nitro IPA.

* RE/MAX Gold will be pouring Napa Smith Pilsner.

* Angel Heart 4 You will be pouring Harp Lager.

* Lindsay Art Glass will be representing Walnut Creek with Calicraft’s City IPA.

* Romancing the Home will be pouring a pale ale from Saint Archer.

* Elisa’s Closet will be pouring Drake’s 1500.

* The Vintage Owl will be pouring Ballast Point’s Sculpin.

* Bookshop Benicia will be pouring Ballast Point’s Grapefruit IPA.

* Dianna’s Bakery and Cafe will be pouring Calicraft’s Oaktown Brown Ale.

* Studio 41 will be pouring Mendocino Brewing Company’s Red Tail Ale.

* Spotless Carpet Cleaning will be pouring an Evil Twin from Fairfield’s very own Heretic Brewery.

* Zeppelin Comics will be pouring a Red Trolley Ale from Karl Strauss Brewing Company.

* Freedom Mortgage will be pouring a Citradelic IPA from New Belgium Brewing Company.

* Finally, Gallerie Renee Marie will be pouring a Citrus Mistress from Hop Valley Brewing Company.

Additionally, many of these businesses will provide snacks to pair with the brews.

Deborah Housman, the event coordinator for Benicia Main Street, believes the event will be “a good time celebrating St. Patrick’s Day.”

The beer crawl will run from 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday, March 11 in downtown Benicia. Check-in starts at 12:30 p.m. at Benicia Main Street, located at 90 First St. Participants must be 21 or older. A sampling glass, map of participating businesses and ID wristband will be provided for each ticket-holder upon check-in. Tickets are $25 in advance and $35 the day of the event, and they can be purchased at Benicia Main Street or online at beniciamainstreet.org. For more information, go to beniciamainstreet.org.
