The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High girls varsity volleyball team was knocked out of first place in the Tri-County Athletic League’s Rock Division after a tough 25-22, 22-25, 25-17, 25-23 loss at St. Joe’s on Tuesday.
SPSV fell to 7-7 overall and 2-1 in the TCAL. St. Joe’s improved to 3-0 and is the only undefeated team in the Rock Division.
The Lady Bruins have been marred by injuries and illness lately, and that took its toll against St. Joe’s.
“We just didn’t have all of our talent in the right place and we just didn’t perform,” complained SPSV head coach Danette Domecus. “I’m hoping we’ll play them better next time when we have everybody healthy.”
Malia Bolko had 14 kills, five aces and 14 digs for the Lady Bruins. Halle Webster added six kills and six blocks, and Tiffany Diaz had four kills, three aces and 11 digs. Other contributors for SPSV included Julia Kistner (29 digs), Kristina Manuel (10 assists, 13 digs) and Nikki Lumauod (nine assists).
“We played some amazing defense but our offense just wasn’t doing what it should be doing,” Domecus said. “We had some hitters out of synch who weren’t at the top of their games.”
The Lady Bruins host league rival Albany tonight.
