The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High girls varsity volleyball team captured the Bronze bracket championship at last Saturday’s Westmoor Invitational.
The Lady Bruins (11-7) got off to a slow start, losing 25-13, 25-19 to San Francisco Waldorf and 25-23, 25-11 to Terra Nova. But SPSV caught fire in the afternoon, beating Washington of Fremont, 25-21, 20-25, 15-10, and Independence, 25-16, 25-19. The Lady Bruins saw Washington again in the Bronze bracket championship match and won 25-16, 25-19.
“That was a good way to end it,” said SPSV head coach Danette Domecus. “It was a hard tournament, which was good because we needed it.”
Caroline Gallagher, Makahla Bolko and Candice Turk shined for SPSV. Kamryn Mitchell, filling in for injured Nikki Lumauod, also had an outstanding tournament.
SPSV returns to Tri-County Athletic League action Tuesday night at Salesian and plays at Benicia on Wednesday.
