Albany scored three unanswered goals in each half en route to a 6-0 victory over the St. Patrick-St. Vincent High girls soccer team Tuesday night at Dante Magnani Field.
It was the seventh straight loss for the Lady Bruins (1-8), who have yet to win in the brutally tough Tri-County Athletic League’s Rock division this season.
“I really hope that first wins comes,” said SPSV midfielder Chloe Lindemann. “We just have to play at our full potential. It’s not fun losing, but it’s better to have a challenge because it will make us better for next year.”
Albany (13-3, 6-2 TCAL) dominated time of possession and didn’t give the Lady Bruins many scoring opportunities. SPSV’s best scoring chance came early in the second half when a rebound off a shot by Emily Thompson bounced past an open Savannah Massa with an open net.
“We need to maintain possession more and not just kick the ball away,” Lindemann said. “That isn’t working for us. Albany had really good passes and was making a lot of runs. They’re a very aggressive team.”
SPSV goalkeeper Cydney Hampton made several impressive saves for the Lady Bruins. Ya Davis had three goals for Albany and freshman goalkeeper Kyla Dullum recorded the shutout. Angelica Gonzalez, Patty Quinn and Emilie Ivtchenko also scored for the Lady Cougars.
SPSV plays at St. Joe’s on Thursday night and is home for St. Mary’s on Saturday morning.
