WITH NO FEWER THAN 10 BREAKOUT SESSIONS devoted to the diagnostic, healing, therapeutic and restorative qualities of dreams, the annual conference of the International Association for the Study of Dreams affirms the power of our dreams to assist in our health care — both physical and mental. Indeed, many physicians and therapists use information provided by their patients’ dreams — and even their own dreams — to assist in their treatment plans.
Today’s dreamer shares his dream’s “check in” regarding his recovery from an injury and his prognosis for the future.
Dear SMYD,
Before I describe my dream to you, I think I should tell you some real-life information that might be helpful. Some months ago, I used to train in Mixed Martial Arts. It came naturally to me and I loved it! I was strong and started competing nearby. But because of a shoulder injury I was forced to stop training until the end of June.
So, yesterday evening I dreamed I was at my home and then I received a message from my MMA coach. The message was saying, “Hey buddy, I am sorry for your injury. I am sure that soon you will be OK. But please, I would like to get back to training with you in 2015, so you can train for the title. I have big plans for you!”
To tell you the truth, I can’t describe the feeling. It was a good one for sure. It felt good. I felt like I am chosen for something, something great. Like I am going to do or going to be something huge.
And then I woke up.
Please, what can you say about this dream? I am looking forward to your response.
Signed, Greek Fighter
Dear Greek Fighter,
Our dreams will frequently choose a trusted friend as “spokesperson” for delivering insights and information about our physical well-being. Your MMA coach fits that requirement nicely. He knows you, your strengths, the nature of your injury and the requirements for a full recovery.
Through him, your dream delivers two important messages: First, speaking through the voice of your trainer, your dreaming self is telling you plainly that your physical recovery is going well. Good news, to be sure. Still, it is now the middle of 2014 and your dream refers to 2015 as a start date to resume training. You may have six more months of recovery before you are completely healed. You are, of course, eager to get back; but don’t rush it! If you continue to work cautiously, your injury will soon be only a memory.
Second, your dream suggests that once you have patiently waited and followed your doctor’s orders, you will be in store for something big. Soon enough, you will experience the joy of your full recovery and being able to compete again. Continue on your well-paced regimen, Dear Dreamer. Success awaits you.
Sweet Dreams to you!
