The Benicia Unified School District board of trustees return this week after a brief summer recess.
But for Assistant Superintendent Dr. Michael Gardner, Thursday’s meeting won’t be a content-free summer sail.
Gardner will present for the board’s approval new job descriptions for Benicia High School’s principal, utility worker for Food Services, and the district accounting technician.
“The current job description is outdated and insufficient to describe the necessary duties required,” Gardner wrote of each proposed new job description in a report to trustees.
“There currently is no specific High School Principal job description. This job description would update the site administrator job description that BUSD currently hires under and is considerably more detailed towards the duties required of a High School Principal.”
According to Gardner’s report, the primary function of the principal is to be the school’s “educational leader.”
“Under the direction of the Superintendent, (the principal) serves as the educational leader and chief administrator of the comprehensive high school; coordinates all aspects of the instructional program; organizes, directs, supervises and evaluates all site personnel; participates in staff, student, and community activities; (and) oversees school plant operations,” reads the new job description.
Likewise, the accounting technician, “under direction, performs technical-level accounting work in establishing, analyzing, auditing, reconciling and maintaining automated and manual financial and program records; to prepare accounting, budgetary and statistical reports, statements and claims; and to perform related work as required.”
The utility worker for Food and Nutrition Services, “under the Director of Food & Nutrition Services, (will) perform a variety of duties related to the shipping, receiving, storing and issuing of food and supplies, drive a District vehicle to various locations to deliver goods as assigned, maintaining District vehicle in proper working order, to perform custodial services required to maintain the central kitchen in a clean and orderly condition, and to perform related duties as required.”
Gardner is recommending the board approve all of the job descriptions as they are presented.
