The Governing Board of the Benicia Unified School District will be considering the appointment of members to the Citizen’s Bond Oversight Committee at tonight’s meeting.
Per the Measure S General Obligation Bonds, which were approved by voters in 2014 to provide funding for special projects at all the district schools, it is required for Benicia Unified School District to have a Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee, which is comprised of seven members who meet four times a year to go over quarterly bond expenditure reports. The seven members consist of a business community representative, a senior’s organization representative, a taxpayer’s association representative, a parent or guardian of a BUSD student, a parent-teacher organization or school site council representative who is also a parent of a BUSD student and two community-at large representatives.
The most recent membership consisted of Ron Arrants, Ellen Blaufarb, Pierre Bidou, Scott Burford, Scott McClure, Patricia Lopes and Abigail Schaudel. Blaufarb and Schaudel recently resigned due to other commitments, and three additional seats will have terms ending on Oct. 2. The five seats that are available are for the business community, senior citizen’s organization, both parent positions and one of the community-at-large positions. The term for each member is two years, and no member can serve more than three consecutive terms, according to the committee bylaws.
In other business, Superintendent Charles Young will be reading a proclamation recognizing September as Suicide Prevention Month, and Technology Director Ruben Fernandez will be providing an update on the second goal for the Local Control Accountability Plan, which is to “modernize and improve infrastructure to provide a learning environment that offers opportunities for 21st century teaching and learning.”
The meeting will take place tonight at 7 p.m. in the Benicia Unified School District Board Room at the district building on 350 East K St. There will be an earlier closed session at 6 p.m.
