The Benicia Unified School District Governing Board of Trustees will meet briefly Thursday to approve the Personnel Action List before attending Back to School Night at Benicia High School.
“We’ve been hiring up until the last minute and so we wanted to have a meeting to make sure we got some folks hired on the PAL,” said Janice Adams, superintendent of Benicia schools.
“It’s just a very short meeting because we have a Back to School Night at the high school,” she said.
The annual Back to School Night brings teachers and parents together to review the year’s curriculum. Sessions start at 6:35 p.m. for the Early Bird period and conclude at 8:30 p.m.
Among the positions that will see an increase in weekly hours are the Liberty High School campus supervisor (4) and the library media tech at Benicia High (5).
Also up for approval are stipends for support of beginning teachers; and the hiring of a temporary 504 coordinator for students with special conditions. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 requires federal aid recipients to provide education to qualified persons with disabilities; a coordinator helps facilitate that education.
The meeting is open to the public. The open session will be at 6:15 p.m. instead of the usual 7 to allow for time to attend the Back to School Night at Benicia High.
